Russ Wiles, Personal Finance Writer, The Arizona Republic
Since 1995, Tony Verheyen has helped tens of thousands of people improve their financial wellbeing. Although their backgrounds are different, the vast majority of them share three key traits:
Over time, Tony's noticed that some of the people consistently do all the right things. They stand apart from their peers, but they aren't the usual suspects (e.g., high income, corner office, advanced degree). They're employees at all levels that exhibit conscious approaches, strong mindsets, and unrelenting devotions to succeeding in good times and bad.
He wrote In Our Reach to show readers how some of their resourceful colleagues get ahead and to put those same strategies and steps in their reach.
The Society of Actuaries Research Institute identified In Our Reach as a "Reference and Resource" in two guides that help individuals learn about key financial topics: "Finding Trustworthy Financial Advice for Retirement and Avoiding Pitfalls;" and "Estate Planning: Preparing for Incapacity or End of Life." These consumer briefs are part of the "Managing Retirement Decisions" series produced by SOA's Committee on Post-Retirement Needs and Risks.
The first section of the book helps readers develop a conscious approach to financial wellbeing and the last calls them to embrace an unrelenting devotion to making their efforts sustainable. The sections in between focus on steps to strengthen their four core financial mindsets. An appendix is also included to share planning tools that Tony's used since 2006 to help DIY financial planners.
As a former military, workplace, and college instructor, Tony realizes traditional employees don't have time for workbooks, textbooks, or vanity books. And he knows that they hate being "SOLD!" and talked down to. So he offers real-world, practical insights in a way that compels readers to turn every page.
“In Our Reach provides an invaluable framework to better plan for our financial futures by taking advantage of the many tools and resources right at our fingertips. The vignettes, tangible examples, and action items resonate in a way most financial literature falls short.”

"Managing personal finances is a complex and daunting task for many Americans. In In Our Reach, Tony Verheyen explores common financial decisions that confront working-age employees, the questions that they ask, and the way they think about these issues. I like very much that the book uses stories and examples to illustrate points and draw the readers in, and provides practical information to help individuals who are on their own and groups of individuals working to deal with some of these challenges."

"This book is full of terrific information and easy to understand. As a recent retiree, it’s a must-read for employees that want to improve themselves financially, regardless of their state of life. Bravo!”

“Speaking as a 30-something, Tony talks about things that I wish I had known and executed in my 20s. Hooked from the very first pages, In Our Reach helped me realize that there are still great opportunities to take action, not only financially, but in other areas of life as well. If you know it’s time to take a conscious approach to financial well-being, this book will definitely help you along that path. You do not need to walk alone!”
